Limit on Name and Date of Birth Changes

One of the biggest changes in 2026 is the restriction on updating personal details. Now, a person can change their name in Aadhaar only two times and their date of birth only once.

This rule has been introduced to prevent misuse and frequent unnecessary changes in the database. However, there is no limit on updating the address, as people often move from one place to another.

To make these changes, valid government documents such as PAN card, voter ID, passport, or driving license are required.

Free Online Address Update (Limited Time)

UIDAI is offering a free online address update facility through the myAadhaar portal, but this is available only for a limited time. The free service is valid until 14 July 2026.

After this date, users may have to pay a fee for updating their address. For other updates like name, date of birth, or mobile number, you must visit an Aadhaar Seva Kendra, where a fee of ₹75 to ₹125 is charged.

 New Rules for Biometric Updates

Biometric data such as fingerprints and iris scans can only be updated by visiting an Aadhaar center, as physical verification is required.

For children, biometric updates are mandatory:

UIDAI has also introduced improved technology and advanced scanners. This helps in better identification, especially for elderly people and laborers whose fingerprints may be worn out.

 Improved Security and Fraud Prevention

To make Aadhaar more secure, UIDAI has strengthened its system with multiple layers of security. These include OTP verification, biometric authentication, and device-based verification.

Another important update is that Aadhaar numbers of deceased individuals are now being deactivated more quickly. This step helps prevent misuse and fraud in government schemes and financial activities.

If your Aadhaar details are incorrect or outdated, it is important to update them immediately. Incorrect information can cause problems in banking, subsidies, mobile verification, and other services.

You can easily update your address online through the official UIDAI website or myAadhaar portal. After submitting the request, you will receive an SRN (Service Request Number), which can be used to track the status.
